Goodbye Stranger - Supertramp - 1979

Well, it looks like I'm finally developing a better formula for the posting of the Ocho-rific Song o the Day.  It's 8:40 am as I write this and a while ago I posted the video for today on my FB profile with a little paragraph about why I had chosen the song.

I like that format, but what didn't work about it for me was that it's not in blog format - thus limiting my
space, not allowing me to create and embed images and graphics as I wish and not allowing me to monetize and get those little traffic pats on the head that I love so well :)   So I'm going to be experimenting with the format in the coming week.

DO be sure to follow the Ocho-rific Song o the Day on Facebook
You'll get info and tidbits there that I don't have time to "blog out" :)

And now ...
Your Ocho-rific Song o the Day...

For years this has been my *goodbye* song to any relationship...

Yesterday, I delivered a box of belongings to a friend so that she could pass them along to a 'now' former friend.
That put an end to a very dear 8 or so year friendship.

‎**I wish you the absolute best, my friend
and I’ll continue to pray for your health,
your blissful happiness and the patience of those around you ..
You've helped create some of the greatest memories I have.
I’ll keep your number in my phone in case you ever want to get in touch…**

Goodbye Stranger first appeared on Supertramp's 1979 album Breakfast in America.
The track was one of three from Breakfast in America with a music video. In the video, the band play the track on a soundstage. Roger Hodgson and John Helliwell lip synch. In addition, Davies plays a Hammond organ.

It was featured on the TV show WKRP in Cincinnati on the episode
"Baby, If You Ever Wondered".

 ::from SongMeanings.net::
It was an early morning yesterday
I was up before the dawn
And I really have enjoyed my stay
But I must be moving on
Like a king without a castle
Like a queen without a throne
I'm an early morning lover
And I must be moving on

Now I believe in what you say
Is the undisputed truth
But I have to have things my own way
Just to keep me in my youth
Like a ship without an anchor
Like a slave without a chain
Just the thought of those sweet ladies
Sends a shiver through my veins
And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me
My troubles will be few

Goodbye stranger, it's been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true
Goodbye Mary, goodbye Jane
Will we ever meet again?
Feel no sorrow, feel no shame
Come tomorrow, feel no pain

(Sweet devotion)
Goodbye mary,
(It's not for me)
Goodbye Jane
(Just give me motion)
Will we ever
(And set me free)
Meet again
(To the land of the ocean)
Feel no sorrow
(Far away)
Feel no shame
(It's the life I've chosen)
Come tomorrow
(Every day)
Feel no pain
(So goodbye Mary)
Goodbye Mary,
(Goodbye Jane)
Goodbye Jane
(Oh, will we ever)
Will we ever
(harmony)Meet again?

Now some they do, and some they don't
And some you just can't tell
And some they will, and some they won't
With some it's just as well

You can laugh at my behavior
That'll never bother me
Say the devil is my savior
But I don't pay no heed

And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me
My troubles will be few

Goodbye stranger, it's been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true
Goodbye Mary, goodbye Jane
Will we ever meet again?
Feel no sorrow, feel no shame
Come tomorrow, feel no pain

(Sweet devotion)
Goodbye mary,
(It's not for me)
Goodbye Jane
(Just give me motion)
Will we ever
(And set me free)
Meet again
(And the land of the ocean)
Feel no sorrow
(Far away)
Feel no shame
(It's the life I've chosen)
Come tomorrow
(Every day)
Feel no pain
(So now I'm leavin)
Goodbye mary,
(Got to go)
Goodbye jane
(Hit the Road)
Will we ever
(I'm sayin once again)Meet again?
(Oh, yes I'm leavin)
Feel no sorrow
(Got to go)
Feel no shame
(Got to go)
Come tomorrow
(I'm sorry I must tell you)Feel no pain
(So goodbye Mary)
Goodbye Mary,
(Goodbye Jane)
Goodbye Jane
(Oh, will we ever)
Will we ever
(harmony)Meet again?

I believe, yes I've got to get away

Goodbye stranger
It's been nice...

 ::What Ever Happened to Supertramp?::

~from their website~

05.08.10 - A MESSAGE FROM SUPERTRAMP
In June of 2008 Rick Davies went to meet with Roger Hodgson to discuss the possibility of a reunion with him.  After fifteen months of discussions, last fall Rick and Roger did not come to an agreement as was hoped. Roger decided to continue his solo career as he has since leaving Supertramp twenty-seven years ago.

After a bit of soul searching and much encouragement and support from Supertramp's longstanding promoters, Rick decided to put the band back on the road.

The "70-10 Tour" is a celebration of 40 years of Supertramp, which Rick started in 1970, but it is not a reunion with Roger Hodgson.  We wish Roger well and look forward to playing for you this fall.

We sincerely hope this puts an end to the confusion that has been circulating on the internet and in the press.

It's been over 40 years since the release of “Supertramp”, their first album; in 1970 .. and you may or may not be aware that they've embarked on a tour!
((if you'd like to read the whole article, you can see it HERE in a new window))

::from Supertramp.com::

Once again, joining Supertramp’s founder, lead singer and keyboardist, Rick Davies, are legendary Supertramp members John Anthony Helliwell, saxophones and woodwinds, and Bob Siebenberg, drums. Veterans of past Supertramp tours, Jesse Siebenberg, lead vocals, guitars and percussion, Cliff Hugo, bass, Carl Verheyen, guitars and Lee Thornburg, horns, will round out the lineup.  Cassie Miller and Gabe Dixon, who joined the band last fall, are back too.

“I was really proud of our performances on the last tour,” said Rick Davies.  “There was a great chemistry between all of us.  These guys are incredible musicians and playing together each night was a lot of fun.  And that fun transcended to the audience.”  When asked whether Roger Hodgson might appear on some of the dates Davies replied, “I know there are some fans out there who would like that to happen.  There was a time when I had hoped for that too.  But the recent past makes that impossible.  In order to play a great show for our fans, you need harmony, both musically and personally. Unfortunately that doesn’t exist between us anymore and I would rather not destroy memories of more harmonious times between all of us.”
