What is ::Cover-rific::, anyway...?

What is ::Cover-rific::, anyway...?
::Cover-rific:: is just a word I made up at some point during the last few months when I was posting a cover-tune as the Ocho-rific Song o the Day.  By clicking the ::Cover-rific:: link at the bottom of this post, you can go to every Ocho-rific Song that has ever been posted that was tagged as ::Cover-rific:: ... you can then save that in your favorites as ::Cover-rific:: if you like ... this will enable you, if you're feeling in a ::Cover-rific:: Mood to go catch up on covers only.  :)

09/29/2010 - ::Extra Goodies:: - Everyman's Journey

::Extra Goodies::

Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I am a big, big, big fan of Journey.  I am very touchy about the fact that I've never seen Journey with Steve Perry and never will.  Though I love Steve Perry dearly, I'm pretty frustrated with him for rattling our chains in the mid 90s, only to require a hip replacement and never return.

09/05/2010 - Come Sail Away - Styx - 1977

A Note From the Author:
I did FULLY intend to get this posted before midnight of last night and the evening got away from me.
It's my goal to have these written ahead so that I can just choose the song, add some "daily" thoughts and post them every

morning at 6am like clockwork.  I promise, we're almost there :)

For those of you who are reading along on a regular basis, I'm open to your suggestions, thoughts and feedback regarding the Ocho-rific Song o the Day and things you'd like to see featured ... you can address them to
kjackson808@comcast.net. Please put "Ocho-rific", "Song of the day", etc in the subject line.

I do want to assure you that the Ocho-rific Song o the Day will return to it's usual WIDE variety of music just as soon as my "Styx Fever" has worn off.  :)   In fact, I'll go ahead and promise you now that tomorrow WON'T be Styx.  For those of you who can't get enough of Styx, please don't panic ... we'll revisit them soon ... :)

8/30/2010 - Monday - Grand Illusion - Styx

today's
Ocho-rific Song o the Day...
Grand Illusion
Styx

1977

::from
SongMeanings.net::

Welcome to the Grand illusion

Come on in and see what's happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show

The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star.
But don't be fooled by the radio
The TV or the magazines

They show you photographs of how your life should be

But they're just someone else's fantasy

So if you think your life is complete confusion

Because you never win the game

Just remember that it's a Grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same.
We're all the same...

So if you think your life is complete confusion

Because your neighbors got it made

Just remember that it's a Grand illusion

And deep inside we're all the same.

We're all the same...

America spells competition, join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car

Someday soon we'll stop to ponder what on Earth's this spell we're under
We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are

::from SongFacts.com::

The album The Grand Illusion was released on July 7, 1977,(7-7-77),

and it was Styx's 7th studio album released. (thanks, Randy - Colerain Twp., OH)

::from ArtistFacts.com::
DeYoung and the Panozzos formed the band as The Tradewinds.
They played local bars while they went to Chicago State University.

::WIKI "FACTS"::

Twin brothers Chuck and John Panozzo first got together with their neighbor Dennis DeYoung in 1961 in the Roseland section of the south side of Chicago, eventually taking the band name "The Tradewinds".
The Grand Illusion was released in 1977 and became Styx' breakthrough album,
reaching Triple Platinum certification.

The Ocho-riffic Song o' the Day - 8/12/2010 -"...Just take your best shot and don't blow it..."

Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)
The Grand Illusion-1978
Styx

Quite possibly my favorite Styx song EVAH! It's also quite possible that I'll say that approximately fifteen more times throughout the course of this blog.

Styx is, I believe .. beyond a shadow of a doubt my favorite band of all time.
