09/08/2010 - Runnin' Down A Dream - Tom Petty

Good morning and
Happy Mid-Week!

I'm sure you've all been terribly excited to see who we're moving to next, so I'll hop right to the it.

On several occasions, Sammy Hagar has played at a little festival called the Moondance Jam.  We'll talk more about the Moondance Jam later, it's absolutely something to be checked out!!   My first thought was that I'd pick someone who

played at the Moondance Jam in the same year, but that seemed too easy.

I started "wiki-ing" around and low and behold .... Sammy w/ Van Halen played at the very first Farm Aid in 1985 ... another artist who played at 1985 Farm Aid?

Tom Petty...
which makes today's
Ocho-rific Song o the Day
Runnin' Down A Dream - 1989
You're welcome! :)

::from SongMeanings.net::
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down

I had the radio on, I was drivin'

trees flew by, me and Del were singin' little Runaway
I was flyin'

Chorus
Yeah runnin' down a dream

that never would come to me

workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads

runnin' down a dream

I felt so good like anything was possible

I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
the last three days the rain was un-stoppable
it was always cold, no sunshine

(Repeat Chorus)

I rolled on as the sky grew dark

I put the pedal down to make some time

there's something good waitin' down this road

I'm pickin' up whatever's mine

*The video was animated. It was inspired by a comic strip called Little Nemo In Slumberland by Winsor McKay. Each strip told the story of one of Nemo's dreams. At the end, he always woke up.

*Full Moon Fever was listed as a Tom Petty solo album even though members of The Heartbreakers played on it. Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne all played on the album.

*In 2007, the documentary Runnin' Down A Dream was released. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, the film chronicles the career of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. (thanks, Bertrand - Paris, France)

*When they made their album Hard Promises, MCA wanted to sell it for $9.98, which was $1 more than what most albums cost. Petty protested and threatened to name the album "$8.98. The label backed off and released it at the lower price. Petty's vehemence in releasing the album at the $8.98 price is reflected on the Hard Promises album cover. In the lower right-hand corner, there are albums in record bin. The album at the front of the right side of the bin reflects the $8.98 price. (thanks, Karen - Sacramento, CA)

*In 1988, Petty joined Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and George Harrison in The Traveling Wilburys. Harrison and Orbison played on Petty's 1989 album Full Moon Fever, which was produced by Lynne. The band toured with Dylan in 1986. In an interview with Esquire magazine, Petty said: "The great thing about the Wilburys was that none of us had to take the heat by ourselves. I was just a member of the band. Nobody felt like he was above anybody else. We had such a good time."
