11//01/2010 - Ride Like The Wind - Cristopher Cross - 1980

today's
Ocho-rific
Song o the Day...
Ride Like the Wind
Christopher Cross - 1980

You'll notice Christopher Cross welcomes legend Michael McDonald to the stage at the beginning of the video.  Michael McDonald sang background on this tune .. I see quite a big Michael McDonald explosion in our future, my dear friends ... because I'd forgotten just exactly how much I like Michael McDonald's odd little voice.

I'd also like to point out that in the tidbits, I did learn that Christopher Cross performed this song on the Jimmy Fallon show with the show band The Roots.  If I'm not mistaken, Michael McDonald also appeared in

that.  I looked on YouTube and I can't find it.  I'm sure I'll look again sometime and hopefully find it for us all.  I expect that it's fabulous. :)   Until then we have the following video from 1998.

This is SUCH a goodie!!
Enjoy!

It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time for sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again

And I've got such a long way to go
(Such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind

I was born the son
of a lawless man
Always spoke my mind
with a gun in my hand
Lived nine lives
Gunned down ten
Gonna ride like the wind

And I've got such a long way to go
(Such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind

Gonna ride like the wind

Accused and tried
and told to hang
I was nowhere in sight
when the churchbells rang
Never was the kind to do
as I was told
Gonna ride like the wind
before I get old

It is the night
My body's weak
I'm on the run
No time for sleep
I've got to ride
Ride like the wind
To be free again

And I've got such a long way to go
(Such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind

And I've got a long way to go
(Such a long way to go)
To make it to the border of Mexico
So I'll ride like the wind
Ride like the wind

Gonna ride like the wind

::Extra Goodies::
::from SongFacts.com::
This Soft Rock classic tells the story of a condemned man on the run to Mexico. The story line is one not often heard on Adult Contemporary radio, but the precise instrumentation and soaring background vocals, which were provided by Michael McDonald, helped make the song a hit.

On the album inner sleeve, Christopher Cross dedicated this song to Lowell George, formerly of the band Little Feat, who died in 1979. (thanks, Brittany - Calgary, Canada)
