Today's
Ocho-rific Song o the Day...Hold on Tight - ELO - 1981
::from SongMeanings.net::
Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold tight to your dream
It's a long time to be gone
Time just rolls on and on
When you need a shoulder to cry on
When you get so sick of trying
Just hold tight to your dream
When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over and over and over you could
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sents—ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi a ton reve
When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over and over and over you could
Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see the shadows falling
When you hear that cold wind calling
Hold on tight to your dream
Oh, yeah
Hold on tight to your dream
Yeah, hold on tight
To your dream

::WIKI "FACTS"::
*Electric Light Orchestra (often abbreviated ELO) was a British rock group from Birmingham, who released eleven studio albums between 1971 and 1986 and another album in 2001. ELO was formed to accommodate Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne's desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. After Wood's departure following the band's debut record, Lynne wrote and arranged all of the group's original compositions and produced every album.
*Despite early singles' success in the UK the band was initially more successful in the United States, billed as "The English guys with the big fiddles".[1]
*From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated 27 Top 40 hit singles in both the UK and the US. The group also scored 20 Top 20 U.K. hit singles, as well as 19 Top 20 hit singles in the U.S. Billboard charts. The band also holds the record for having the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits of any band in US chart history without ever having a number one single.[2] ELO collected 21 RIAA awards, 38 BPI awards,[3][4] and sold well over 50 million albums worldwide.[5]
*The song is track twelve on the band's (1981) album Time and was the first song released as a single, becoming ELO's last major hit single.
*The song went top ten in most countries, hitting the top spot in Switzerland, number two in Germany, number four in the UK, and number ten on the US pop chart, as well as number two on the US rock chart.
*It is known for having a verse sung in French:
Accroche-toi à ton rêve
Accroche-toi à ton rêve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sens ton cœur se briser
Accroche-toi à ton rêve.
Translated, the verse is essentially
a French-language reprise of the first verse of the song:
Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold on tight to your dream.
